As you move out of the run-through phase of rehearsals, you must prepare for the technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and, eventually, opening night. This time in rehearsals requires a very definite shift in your focus and perspective, as you are paying less attention to the work of the actors and more attention to the shape and function of the show as a whole. Another step in this process, and one that is extremely difficult for some directors, is beginning to let go control of the show and turning it over to your PSM.
