Actors have auditions. Designers have portfolios full of beautiful sketches, renderings, and photographs. Stage managers have prompt books and reams of paperwork. All of those items are used to pursue future jobs, but what about directors? Outside of a résumé and an interview, what do directors have to show that they are qualified to be hired? The title of this chapter, of course, has given the answer to that question away: the director’s portfolio.
