Abstract
Whether from the public or the private sector, first-class investigators resemble each other more than they differ. They are successful because they share well-practiced skills, a high degree of perception, and a positive attitude. For the purposes of this chapter, we define public investigators as official law enforcement agents, such as state or local police officers. We define private investigators as licensed private detectives, private investigators, asset protection, security management, or loss prevention.
