CHAPTER FIFTEEN
An Evolving Art Form: The Future of SEO
As we have noted throughout this book, SEO is about leveraging your company’s assets through search engine–friendly content creation and website development (on-site) and targeted content promotion (off-site) to increase exposure and earn targeted traffic from organic search results. These efforts should be closely aligned with the business goals and branding of the company, as well as the company persona and creating great experiences for users who visit your site. This is not a game of figuring out how to manipulate Google; rather, it’s about executing strategies focused on creating great value for the visitors you want to attract to your site. Your aim should be to create content that outshines that of your competitors in your topic area(s), and then promote it effectively to let the people who care about what you do know about it.
The specifics of how your strategy is executed will change as technology evolves, but the fundamental objectives will remain the same as long as “search engines” with unpaid search results exist. The complexity of search will continue to grow, as all search engines seek to locate and index all of the world’s digital information.
