I believe the Product Owner role is the hardest role to fill well on a team. At the same time, I believe it is the single most important role on a team. I know others who have seen the role up close and agree with me. Unfortunately, from a distance, this challenge is not always clear.
Although the Product Owner role builds on earlier roles and skillsets, it is itself a new role. Sure, Scrum introduced the role nearly 20 years ago, but until recently it has only been found in a minority of companies.
