45. BASIC NOISE REDUCTION TECHNIQUES

THERE ARE A couple of basic noise reduction techniques that can be applied easily to just about any type of image. The first technique will work for both action and scenic images, and is performed in Adobe Camera Raw in Photoshop or in the Develop Module in Lightroom. The second technique is a filter found in Adobe Photoshop.

This first method is my favorite way to reduce the noise in my images. It is easy, fast, and works really well. To illustrate this technique, I am going to use a pretty extreme example, a photo shot with a Nikon D3 at an ISO setting of 25,600.
