Humility can be defined as ‘the quality or state of not thinking you are better than other people’ (1). In layman’s terms, humility from a leadership standpoint is being able to harness power, control, knowledge, insight and success to benefit others. Years ago, a top thought leader engaged a younger rising star leader. The more senior leader told the protégé, ‘You have all the answers to problems that people need, you’re wise beyond your years, but you lack humility.’ The protégé was so naïve that they did not understand the implication.
