CHAPTER 5 Why We Treat Each Other Poorly
A basic question to ask at this point is why do people treat each other with disrespect? Is it based in selfishness? Does it come from our disregard for the well-being of others? Does it come from ignorance? Or could it possibly come from low self-esteem? It may be some or all of these reasons depending on the situation. One point is clear: the path toward disrespect is far easier and more convenient than the path toward respect. It takes very little to justify on the front end and can usually be rationalized after the fact by selectively tying it to the less-than-perfect behavior of others.
