Market analysis is the process of researching and analysing external market pay and benefits data. The result of the process is information that can be used to benchmark the competitiveness of an organization’s remuneration levels, policies and practices. There are many reasons for doing this. These include creating or validating a grade structure or set of pay ranges, checking out the external market before recruiting into a new position, developing a new bonus scheme or responding to recruitment or retention problems. Whatever the reason, it is necessary to find good data, understand whether the data are reliable, and turn raw data into meaningful analyses that can be used internally.
