SSI and the Server
It should come as no surprise that the function of SSI depends heavily on the configuration of the server. This is another instance in which you need to communicate with your system administrator to find out whether your server supports SSI and, if so, which syntax to follow.
The instructions in this chapter use SSI commands that work for the
Apache web server; the functionality is provided by Apache’s
mod_include module. Apache is a freely distributed
and highly sophisticated server software package that makes up a
large percentage of servers on the Web. If you aren’t using the
Apache web server, the instructions and examples shown in this
chapter may not work with your server, so be sure to check with an
administrator first.
