The world was stunned when Jacinda Ardern, prime minister of New Zealand and arguably one of the most beloved global leaders, stepped down from her role.
“I had nothing left in the tank,” she said in her final interview as prime minister in 2023.1 “The weight of the job was so constant and so immediate that even in those moments of celebration, the responsibility was always there. I carried that quite heavily, and for good reason—there was a lot at stake.”
