Tony Hoare llama a null el "error del billón de dólares". Es un error, y por eso debes acostumbrarte a prohibir que el código utilice null. Si tienes una referencia a un objeto que podría ser null, tienes que acordarte de hacer una comprobación null antes de intentar llamar a cualquier método del mismo.null Pero como no hay una diferencia obvia entre una referencia null y una que no lo es, es demasiado fácil olvidarlo y obtener un NullPointerException.

La forma más segura de evitar problemas en el futuro es utilizar una alternativa cuando sea posible.

Evita Inicializar Variables a Nulo

No suele ser buena idea declarar una variable hasta que sepas qué valor debe contener. Para una inicialización compleja en, traslada toda la lógica de inicialización a un método. Por ejemplo, en lugar de hacer esto
