Probar tu código te ayudará a verificar que tu código hace lo que esperas que haga. Las pruebas también te ayudarán a añadir, cambiar o eliminar funcionalidades sin romper nada. Pero las pruebas pueden tener beneficios adicionales.

El mero hecho de pensar en qué probar ayudará a identificar las distintas formas en que se utilizará el software, a descubrir cosas que aún no están claras y a comprender mejor lo que el código debe (y no debe) hacer. Pensar en cómo probar estas cosas antes incluso de empezar la implementación también podría mejorar la capacidad de prueba y la arquitectura de tu aplicación. Todo esto te ayudará a construir una solución mejor antes de escribir las pruebas y el código.

Junto con la arquitectura de tu sistema, piensa no sólo en qué probar, sino también en dónde hacerlo. La lógica empresarial debe probarse lo más cerca posible de donde vive: pruebas unitarias para probar pequeñas unidades (métodos y clases), pruebas de integración para probar la integración entre distintos componentes, pruebas de contrato para evitar romper tu API, etc.
