- Sniffing: Using packet analyzer software, aka sniffers, any unencrypted data passing through the network can be captured. There are many uses for a sniffer for both good and bad. But focusing on the cyber security aspect of an attacker, sniffing will provide a lot of useful data from the network traffic host information to the visited websites. Pretty much anything that requires communication from one system to another, which is pretty much everything in the cyber world.
- Side jacking: This involves abducting a user's web session, typically for access into the account of the website. The attacker could be using a sniffer to collect cookies.
