Scott Cook cofounded Intuit with Tom Proulx in 1983. Scott’s experience at Proctor & Gamble made him realize that personal computers would ultimately replace pencil-and-paper accounting.1 That realization, coupled with a desire to create something to help his wife with the mundane task of “paying the bills,” became the inspiration for the company’s first product, the home finance software solution Quicken.2 As Intuit grew, the company continued to improve Quicken, which competed against other consumer financial packages like Microsoft’s Money. ...
