The second chapter on power amplifiers is also from my Audio Power Amplifier Design Handbook and this one looks at the important business of controlling distortion in power amplifiers. Only the threestage architecture is considered, but as you read through the chapter you will begin to understand why this form of amplifier is so popular.
The sources of distortion in a three-stage amplifier are, mercifully, not that numerous. They initially took me quite a lot of effort to disentangle, not least because changing one component value can change the functioning of two or more separate distortion mechanisms.
