It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

In the third chapter on power amplifiers, which is also taken from my Audio Power Amplifier Design Handbook , I explain in detail the operation and design of Class-G amplifiers. Music has a large peakto- mean level ratio, with the output voltage usually a long way below the peak levels, and this is what makes possible the improved efficiency of Class-G. It is a clever technology that significantly economizes on power consumption and heat dissipation by taking the power for its output stage from low-voltage rails when reproducing small amplitude signals, and switching to high-voltage rails to accommodate the relatively rare signal peaks.
