Abstract
Transparency, data integrity, and patient privacy are prerequisites in clinical drug research. Blockchain has emerged as a novel approach to tackle these significant concerns. This chapter uses blockchain-based decentralised identity (DIDs) to enable anonymous user trials whilst mitigating the potential disclosure of personally identifiable information (PII). Blockchain offers a secure and immutable record that guarantees data integrity, making it suitable for addressing data security and patient confidentiality concerns. However, the challenge is in upholding the anonymity of trial participants whilst simultaneously ensuring the verifiability and reliability of the trial data. DIDs, an essential element of blockchain, provide a unique and innovative solution to this problem. DIDs assign distinct and anonymous identifiers to participants in clinical trials without revealing their PII. Blockchain guarantees the anonymity of data whilst allowing authorised parties to verify it. Trial participants can have full control ...
