Abstract
Clinical drug trials play a vital role in medical research, paving the way for innovative therapies that promise to enhance patient outcomes. However, these trials face numerous challenges, from data security vulnerabilities to operational inefficiencies, which hinder the progress of drug development. This chapter investigates into the potential of integrating blockchain technology into clinical drug trials, aiming to address these challenges and improve the overall process. The chapter begins by outlining the existing issues within traditional trial processes, emphasizing the need for a new approach to overcome these challenges. It then provides a detailed overview of blockchain technology, explaining its decentralized nature, immutable characteristics, and the role of smart contracts in facilitating streamlined operations. A significant portion of the chapter is devoted to exploring how blockchain can transform clinical drug trials. It discusses how blockchain enables real-time monitoring, ensures data integrity, promotes interoperability among various systems, and automates ...
