IMPLEMENTATION THROUGH COLLABORATION

This chapter provides an overview of the key factors integral to the successful implementation of KP HealthConnect and to the change in organizational culture that accompanied and enabled it at Kaiser Permanente. It tells the story of the design and implementation of KP HealthConnect, beginning in 2003, and highlighting the key success factors. Finally, it concludes with a number of lessons learned, many of which will be relevant to any health care organization considering a large-scale information technology (IT) implementation.
