This chapter examines the critical role of nursing leaders in the successful implementation of an electronic health record (EHR), especially in the inpatient, or hospital, setting. As in the case of the outpatient EHR implementation, nurses collaborated across Kaiser Permanente's eight regions to help design, build, and validate tools for standardized documentation of patient care and innovative, evidence-based approaches to quality improvement.
