2Intentional Conflict

WHY GOOD INTENTIONS ARE NEVER ENOUGH

If we ignore our imperfections on the grounds thatit’s too depressing to concentrate on them, then wegreatly limit our future options. On the other hand, ifwe know where our limitations are, not just in thinkingbut in emotional things. If we know about any hereditarypredispositions we have toward ethnocentrism, xenophobia, dominance hierarchies, then we have achance to moderate those tendencies. If we ignoreany genetic predispositions in those directions, then wedon’t make any serious effort to ameliorate them andwe’re in much worse shape. This is one of those issuesthat every generation has to learn anew, because everygeneration has the same hereditary predispositions.
