The emergence of data catalogs has provided a viable solution to understanding what data is available, where it is, and how to access and use it. Having a current and easy-to-use data catalog is an excellent basis for higher value data performance. After all, how valuable is data that can’t be found?

When you acknowledge that data is an asset, you expect that data to bring economic benefits. This is called data monetization and I discuss it in depth, including how to put a price on data.

The chapter concludes with an overview of what a data strategy is, how to create one, and how to increase its chances of success. If your plan is in any way related to elevating the role of data in transforming your organization, creating and delivering a data strategy is required.
