Chapter 12

Measuring and Monitoring a Data Governance Program

IN THIS CHAPTER

Bullet Identifying data governance performance indicators

Bullet Building performance dashboards and scorecards

Bullet Implementing monitoring processes

Bullet Exploring data governance enforcement techniques

After your data governance program has been created and deployed, you need to measure its performance. This will be an ongoing responsibility. In the first few months, you and many stakeholders will be eager to understand whether the program is meeting any of its objectives and goals. By monitoring and measuring performance, you can modify the program and correct any issues. As time goes by, you’ll also want to know if the goals and objectives that were identified at the initiation of the program are being met consistently, and whether they are underperforming or exceeding expectations.

In this chapter, I share many of the basics for identifying the right performance indicators and measuring and monitoring them, as well as some ways to increase enforcement.
