It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Preventing overfitting
To prevent overfitting, the simplest method is to do the following:
- Reduce model size by lowering the number of units, layers, and other parameters
- Add a regularization term (L1 or L2) on the norm of the weights to the cost function
