6. The Model of Conflict: Patterns, Situations, and Traits

Difficult conversations on creative projects come in all shapes and sizes. Precipitating events for those conversations are likewise diverse. Here are a few of mine from the last couple of months:

• Valuable but poorly timed feedback from the client undermines much of the underlying structure of the team’s design concept. The team has to revisit some key interface elements. The prototyper on the project, under pressure to finish a first draft of the prototype, calls into question many of the lingering design decisions.

• A team member neglects to complete the assignment and is transitioning to a new project, so is unavailable to help the team fill the gaps.
