I used to look down my nose at shutter speed. All I wanted to think about was aperture. Over time, though, I came to appreciate how important shutter speed is. Fast shutter speeds enable you to capture blur-free portraits and action. Slow shutter speeds may be important for exposure and creative effects.
This chapter explains how dSLR shutters work, shows you how to read shutter speed, explains how to set it, and then discusses how to combat blur caused by camera shake or subject movement. I have a section devoted to combating noise, which is a nasty side-effect caused by long exposures. I finish up with a large section with several examples of how to use shutter speed in different situations.
