Abstract

A digital twin is a virtual copy of an entity. Digital twin is a duplicate copy of a product, process, or a system. It is updated from real-time data. It simply bridges the gap between the physical world and digital arena.

In other words, digital twin means creating an exact equivalent of a thing. It may be a chair, a building, a train, etc. Many sensors are connected to the physical things and collect real time data and transformed to virtual model. The digital twins makes, examines, and constructs the model in a virtual environment.

Internet of Things (IoT) growth helped to boost the digital twin technology as IoT helps in keeping things connected and also helps in transmission of real-time data. Digital twin is not only used to understand the present but also it helps to predict the future. In this chapter different applications of digital twin are discussed and explained and the importance of digital twin is also stated.
