Abstract

This chapter deals with discussing and analyzing the role of digital twin technology in regard to the development of products in organizations. It also discusses and analyzes its implications. The digital twin technology is a digital representation of physical products or processes. Digital twin technology facilitates decision making in the development of products. It enables cost reduction and maximization of the benefits of the products in the world of competitiveness of different organizations. The digital twin is an ideal technology as it allows to obtain all the information of a product or production process with some great insights which can be applied it to the physical world product or process and also the best decisions can be made on the basis of it. The role and adoption of digital twin will allow organizations to avoid problems in products, will allow cost savings, will maximize efficiency, downtime avoidance, opening the way to new business opportunities, planning processes through simulation processes, product development according to consumer demands, optimization of resources, and transformation of organizations in a good way. The implications of adoption of digital twin technology in development of products in organizations are found to be encouraging and promising, which is discussed and explained in this chapter.
