We’re still relatively early in the shift to electric transportation, but already there are some exciting selections for car shoppers, and this chapter will help you navigate your way through some of these options.
We’ll begin with a look at the major categories of vehicles that use batteries for propulsion (as opposed to just powering the lights and radio; all cars and trucks have a 12V battery that handles those chores), the move towards a look at various vehicle classes — the hatchbacks, sedans, and SUVs you’ll find during your exploration — and wind things up with a few tidbits that could help you take advantage of every incentive and tax credit that’s available in your location.
Of course, new models of EVs are beginning to hit the roads on an almost monthly basis, so what’s brand new today might be a great used car choice by the time you’ve got this book in your hands.
That’s perfectly fine, though; I, in fact, anticipated this limitation of printed media by including a section here about buying used EVs.
