Wastewaters: Types, Effects and Characteristics

5.1INTRODUCTION

Industrial wastewaters differ from the domestic wastewaters not only in terms of the variations in flow rates but also in the characteristics. The characteristics of industrial wastewaters vary very widely, from process to process, and from industry to industry, so that it is not possible to generalise the same as can be done in case of domestic wastewaters. The wide variations in the characteristics have bearing on the selection of the type and extent of the treatment to satisfy the discharge limits.
