We raced down the thin ribbon of highway through the open plains at about 130 kilometers per hour. Even at this speed, cars closed in on us from behind and flashed their brights before passing us on the two-lane road. After driving for a couple of hours, Gallo, my client, pressed on the brakes, slowing the Citroën as we approached the small town of Toro.
Gallo drove the car up the gravel road and navigated through the main gate. The road turned to cobblestone and we progressed slowly through the streets, winding between pedestrians and small cars.
