Part III. Building Your Ethernet System

Now that we’ve looked at the various Ethernet media systems, this section covers how to build Ethernet local area networks. The chapter on structured cabling describes the structured cabling standards and how structured cabling systems are organized. The chapters on twisted-pair and fiber optic media explain how the cables and connectors work, and how to use them. The twisted-pair and fiber optic chapters include specific information that applies to each of the Ethernet media systems. The chapters on repeater and switching hubs describe how these devices function, and provide some basic examples of how to use them in your network designs.
