- Dynamic Arrays
Excel’s formula engine had to be rewritten after thirty years to allow for Dynamic Arrays. They debuted at Microsoft Ignite in Orlando, just 45 minutes from my house in September 2019. I was not there. I was 1200 miles away, performing an Excel seminar in upstate New York.
History of the Feature
In the old days, there were a few functions that were designed to return multiple results from one formula. To use them, you had to pre-select the correct number of rows and columns. You would type your formula, and then hold down Ctrl and Shift while pressing Enter. These functions let you calculate Multiple Regression, Frequency Distributions and Matrix Multiplication.
