Facilitating Sprint Planning

Targeting the Sprint Goal

Sprint Planning is the first event of a Sprint. In it, the Scrum Team defines a Sprint Goal that supports the Product Goal, and the Developers create their initial plan of action by selecting Product Backlog items from the Product Backlog to work on in the Sprint. In doing this, they discuss three questions about the Sprint:

  1. Why will the work of the Sprint be valuable? (the Sprint Goal)

  2. What work will the Developers focus on? (the Product Backlog items forecasted for the Sprint)

  3. How will the Developers get started? (the initial plan)
