In den folgenden Kapiteln werden insgesamt vier Entwicklungsumgebungen für FPGAs vorgestellt. Sie stammen von den FPGA-Herstellerfirmen Altera, Lattice, Microsemi und Xilinx.
Die fünfte FPGA-Entwicklungsumgebung, welche für dieses Buch verwendet wird, ist »Vivado« von der Firma Xilinx in der Version »2016.1«. Vivado (oder besser gesagt Teile von Vivado, die für dieses Buch relevant sind) wird in Kapitel 4 vorgestellt; daher ist zu diesem Werkzeug kein eigener Anhang vorhanden.
Zu allen Entwicklungsumgebungen können nur ausgesuchte elementare Aspekte dargelegt werden, weitere Details lassen sich öffentlich verfügbaren Dokumenten des jeweiligen Herstellers entnehmen (Reference Manuals, Tutorials, Application Notes ...).
