Bézier triangles and rectangular Bézier patches are both commonly used for representing curved surfaces, but various software products often support only one or the other. This chapter describes a very simple way of converting triangular Bézier surface patches into rectangular ones. Two possible applications are: (1) ray-tracing triangular patches with a raytracer that supports only rectangular patches and (2) displaying triangular patches on graphics hardware that supports only rectangular patches.
