Next generation wireless mobile networks (Figure 1) will consist of a multitude of wireless access technologies connected to the Internet backbone, thus providing seamless ubiquitous connectivity. Such access technologies include infrastructure-based wide area cellular networks (3G/4G CDMA, GSM, UMTS, etc.), infrastructure-less mobile ad hoc networks (MANET), IEEE 802.11 based wireless LANs (WiFi/WiMax), vehicular networks, mesh and sensor networks, personal and body area networks.
