Cloud computing, which provides elastic, on-demand, computing resources in a pay-as-you-go fashion, is a new infrastructure rapidly gaining tractions today. A major benefit offered by providing computing in the cloud is its high performance-to-cost ratio. By using the cloud computing infrastructure, users, especially small-to-medium IT businesses, can enjoy the benefits of large-scale, elastic, computing (e.g., for serving a large customer base) without having to invest in the large capital required for building and maintaining their own, physical, data centers.
