Chapter 5Quit Playing the Game You’ll Never Win

I enjoy time on my own. As I work away from home a great deal, a lot of it can be spent in hotels, and at least one night a week is inevitably spent in the room of a well-known hotel chain, where I often ponder whether their ‘Good night guarantee’ will include a glass of milk and a bedtime story.

But I can only cope with so much ‘alone time’. There are limits to how much of my own company I enjoy before I need to reach out and engage with others. The degree of that need to be with others can depend on our personality, but whether you're an extrovert or an introvert, people are relational by nature. We need each other. In fact, we were born to bond.
