Although idealized design can be applied to a wide variety of organizations and institutions, it is not a one-size-fits-all process. Business enterprises, operating in competitive marketplaces and requiring a stream of profits for continued viability, present special challenges to planning teams. This chapter describes the application of the idealized design process in two companies in different industries to show some of the common design elements in business enterprises.
