Trademarks
In some jurisdictions, e.g. the United States, a trademark can be
designated by different symbols, depending on if it is registered or not:
TM
for an unregistered product/name trademark
SM
for an unregistered service mark
® for a registered trademark.
The use of these symbols is not mandatory in other jurisdictions.
A trademark is typically a name, word, logo, symbol, design, image,
or a combination of these elements. There is also a range of non-
conventional trademarks that do not fall into these standard categories,
and make use of rather peculiar differentiators such as color, smell, or
sound.
