Abstract: The chapter aims to demonstrate how an intergroup perspective informs our understanding of intercultural communication. It provides a general overview of the social identity and intergroup research tradition and summarizes research and theoretical approaches to understand constructive and potentially negative aspects of intergroup communication (e.g., communication accommodation theory). The chapter highlights the theorization and empirical studies on intergroup contact in contexts.
