The RFC Editor

The RFC Editor is the office that is responsible for publishing RFCs, for assigning them unique identifiers, and for the final editorial review of the documents. This is mostly provided as an administrative service for the benefit of the standards process, and is not a clerical service (the RFC Editor does not fix spelling mistakes, for example).

Although the RFC Editor and IANA are different organizations, they have historically been served by the same person. This precedent has recently changed, however.

For more information on the office of the RFC Editor, visit their web page athttp://www.rfc-editor.org/.
