Historical RFCs

Any RFC that gets replaced by another RFC is automatically labelled as Historic.

In addition, it is possible that a new technology will simply make an existing specification obsolete. When this happens, one or more existing specifications may need to be retired. In this case, the existing RFCs and standards will also be marked as Historical RFCs.

Note that historic specifications are kept in the archives for reference purposes. Users should be careful to verify that the document they are reading is not an historical one that has no bearing on the current state of things.
