iFCP is a gateway-to-gateway protocol for providing Fibre Channel fabric services to Fibre Channel end devices over a TCP/IP network. Like FCIP and iSCSI, iFCP uses TCP for congestion control, error detection, and recovery. Unlike FCIP, iFCP does not simply join Fibre Channel fabrics over distance, but can be used in place of Fibre Channel fabrics to provide a more integrated IP storage solution. Fibre Channel storage arrays, HBAs, routers, switches, and hubs can be plugged directly into iFCP storage switches. iFCP leverages the work already done by NCITS T10 and T11 on FC-4 FCP and associated fabric services.
