Core Activities and Values

Four guiding values—authenticity, abstraction, discovery, p articipation—

infuse the activities of Cognitive Systems Engin eering. When these values

are put into practice CSE discovers patterns in joint cog nitiv e s ystems

(JCSs) at work, abstracts patterns in how joint cognitive systems wor k,

and, ultimately, designs join t cognitive systems that work.

ADAPTABILITY VERSUS LIMITS

Look at the ne ws as organiza tions struggle to m eet new demands on their

performance, how to be more efficient under resource pressures, or how to

recognize and explo it opportunities created as the technology baseline advances .
