This chapter shifts persp ective to consider beliefs about JCS s at work.
The chapter us es a recent sh ift in new technology—robotic platforms
that can move on their own in the world—to show how CSE
participates in the process es of envisioning future operational worlds
given opportunities defin ed by ne w technology. In this story about
envisioning, concepts about how JCSs wor k are revealed as well—
concepts about: how contrasts across multiple perspectives aid in r e-
conceptualization, how people and only people can be responsibl e
agents—problem-holders—balancing conflicts across multiple goals,
and how automata as literal-m inded agents require people to close the
context gap.
