Conclusion
This chapter examined some of the pieces in High Availability on a single switch, to help improve your overall system availability. These strategies include hardware features such as redundant components, and software features such as ISSU and GRES. There are even protocols that increase availability, such as LACP for aggregated Ethernet and the ultra-fast hello mechanism of BFD. Remember that you are only as strong as your weakest link, and as you add more systems to your network, achieving High Availability becomes more difficult. As these systems are added, there is a greater probability of software bugs, component failures, and/or link failures. Keep these issues in mind as you are deciding to buy that new device for added redundancy!
