The ndo_open() function is called by the kernel whenever this network interface is configured by authorized users (admin, for example) who make use of any user space utilities such as ifconfig or ip.

Like other network device operations, the ndo_open() function receives a struct net_device object as its parameter, from which the driver should get the device-specific object stored in the priv field at the time of allocating the net_device object.
